The “Out of Range” error when setting up a Google Wi-Fi network can drive you crazy. The “Out of Range” error occurred when you try to add a fourth access point (AP) to my system, which consists of three Google Wi-Fi access points.
Basically, Google and its products are really good and can be easily operated. However, setting up this fourth Google Wi-Fi access point has brought me close to the brink of despair. On the one hand, it was due to the idiosyncrasies of the Google system and, on the other hand, the chain of unfortunate circumstances.
But, what has happened and how can the problem be solved. First of all, building up my network. Only the Google Wi-Fi “Main Access Point” is connected to this router. An Ethernet cable goes from this primary Google Wi-Fi to a switch via which the rest of the house network is supplied with LAN. Google Wi-Fi takes over the assignment of the IP addresses, which worked very well. The other access points are then either connected to the primary via LAN or via mesh.
With the addition of the fourth Google Wi-Fi, you can close a gap in your Wi-Fi coverage. Therefore, set up the future access point (AP) at the desired position (there was already one of the other APs there!) And, started adding the new AP in the app. It was also found and set up within seconds. However, shortly before completing the setup, the app always told me that the new AP was too far from the main access point. For the interior, you need to move it closer to it and try to make the connection. When the new AP was only about a meter away from the main AP, then you need to check the device, as there is definitely something wrong with it.
The problem was with the software version of Google Wi-Fi, so you need to update the software version if you’re using an older version till now. A connection of Google WiFi to the existing network was still rejected with the message out of range (out of range). You should also replace your old-fashioned router because that is another thing, which is creating the issue.
In the end, you need to compare the serial numbers of the individual APs and found the following. The three originally Google Wi-Fi APs will come from the US with the new AP coming from the country you’re living in, just in case you’re not living in the US. If your Google Wi-Fi is still not working, then you will have to replace all three devices with the new ones.
